Safety improvement sheet no. 8 – Hotwork and fire

The Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate aims to enhance safety, trust, and sustainability in relation to transportation, infrastructure, the environment, and housing. The most recent publication, Safety Improvement Sheet no. 08, has been released specifically addressing the dangers associated with Hot work, which is widely recognized as a high-risk task due to its potential to cause fires. This is because hot work involves the use of tools and equipment that generate heat, sparks, or flames, which can easily ignite flammable materials.

Additionally, hot work should only be carried out by trained and authorized personnel who are aware of the potential hazards and know how to handle them safely. Failure to follow these precautions can result in serious consequences, making it crucial to prioritize safety when performing hot work.
