CoC’s sailing vessels >500 GT no limitations will no longer be issued
The Dutch Seafarers Regulation will be amended next year. The CoC’s officers on sailing vessels >500 GT no limitations will no longer be issued, as they do not comply with the international STCW-Code.
In practice, little will change: the Dutch sailing ships Eendracht and Clipper Stad Amsterdam already rely on officers holding certificates of competency for merchant shipping. As a result, the existing CoC’s for sailing vessels > 500 GT no limitations were effectively unusable, leading to misunderstandings.
The Enkhuizen Nautical College has asked for clarity and is therefore adapting the programme of Grote Zeilvaart. The programme will henceforth focus on the CoC for officer sailing vessels up to 500 GT, with worldwide sailing area. The cargo-handling examination will be discontinued, and several subjects will be revised. The programme will be reduced to one day per week.
Important: This change applies only to newly issued certificates of competency. Holders of an existing CoC for sailing vessels no limitations will still be able to renew it as usual.
