August 2025

Inventory of hazardous materials and ship recycling from 26 June ’25 for all ships >500GT

The EU Ship Recycling Regulation (EU SRR) has been in effect since December 31, 2020. This means that ships over 500 GT sailing under an EU flag or calling at European ports are required to have a certified Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) on board.

The IMO Hong Kong Convention (HKC), which also covers ship recycling, entered into force on June 26, 2025 (for new ships), while existing ships have until June 26, 2030, to comply. This means the Ship Recycling Regulation has become applicable worldwide to all SOLAS vessels >500GT.
