New Edition of the STCW Convention & Code available

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has released the new 2026 edition of the STCW Convention and Code. This edition follows the 2017 edition and incorporates the relevant amendments adopted since then.

One important change concerns the existing mandatory Basic Safety Training (Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities – PSSR). As of 1 January 2026, the requirements for this training have been revised and expanded. The STCW-Code now includes explicit competency requirements for the prevention of and response to violence and harassment on board, including bullying, sexual harassment and sexual assault. This new edition also includes updated provisions on certificates and endorsements, including electronic certificates.

In addition to the printed publication, a digital edition is also available through the official IMO publications platform. You can find the publication in the IMO-webshop.

We recommend that everyone involved in STCW regulations, education and training, or certification familiarises themselves with the new edition and identifies which changes are relevant to their work. If you have any questions about the amendments or their implications for your organisation, please feel free to contact us. We will be happy to advise you.
