New international safety code for ships carrying industrial personnel

The IMO has adopted a new International Code of Safety for Ships Carrying Industrial Personnel (IP Code), anchored in a new SOLAS Chapter XV. The code will come into effect on July 1, 2024 and will allow cargo ships and high-speed craft to transport and house industrial personnel working offshore. SOLAS previously distinguished seafarers, passengers and special personnel. As a result, offshore transport vessels were not allowed to carry more than 12 guests, or they had to be certified as a passenger ship. The new IP Code changes this. RBG follows developments closely and helps shipowners to make the right decisions.
