Over-pressurization of Zodiac tube led to severe injury in Antarctica

The U.S. Coast Guard issued a warning against over-pressurizing inflatable boats after an incident in which a passenger was seriously injured on an Antarctic cruise. An investigation focused on a ruptured Zodiac keel tube due to excessive pressure in the tube. During a sightseeing excursion in calm weather, the keel bladder suddenly ruptured, throwing the passenger several feet into the air before landing on the deck and suffering serious injuries, including a broken femur. Another passenger was thrown overboard into the icy water and risked hypothermia. Many vessels have rigid inflatable rescueboats. This warning also applies to these boats, it is better to use a hand or foot pump than the compressor.
