Safety improvement sheet no.13 – Caught in Action
This Safety Improvement Sheet published by the Netherlands Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) highlights that approximately 50% of all injuries on fishing vessels are caused by entrapment accidents. The publication aims to raise awareness and promote safer working practices on board.
Although fishing vessels are fitted with guards around powerful machinery such as fishing and mooring equipment, these machines do not automatically stop when an obstruction is encountered. As a result, crew members remain at significant risk of serious injury.
