Did you know that all ships over 400 GT (and tankers > 150 GT) must have a Ship Oil Pollution Emergency Plan (SOPEP) on board according to MARPOL legislation (Appendix 1 – Oil Pollution)?

This plan describes how to act in the event of an oil spill and part of this plan is the list of contact points for all countries where an oil incident must be reported and where help can be called for. This list must always be up-to-date and available on board. Once every three months – around January 31, April 30, July 31 and October 31 – the IMO publishes an update of this list as an annex to the circular MSC-MEPC.6.
