An investigation focused on a ruptured Zodiac keel tube due to excessive pressure in the tube. During a sightseeing excursion in calm weather, the keel bladder suddenly ruptured, throwing the passenger several feet into the air before landing on the deck and suffering serious injuries, including a broken femur. Another passenger was thrown overboard into the icy water and risked hypothermia. Many vessels have rigid inflatable rescueboats.
