magnetic compass &#8211; deviation and adjustment<\/span><\/h1>\n<p>Regarding SOLAS Regulation V\/19.2.1.1, the NSI requires for every standard magnetic compass on board (update of the Ships Decree 1965):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a current table or curve of residual deviations, which must be available at all times in the ship&#8217;s wheelhouse, so that the ship&#8217;s course and bearings can be corrected to the correct position;<\/li>\n<li>the date of each adjustment and other details must be recorded in the compass log;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Also, with reference to Annex G of ISO standard 25862:2019, every standard magnetic compass on board must be (re)adjusted:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>upon initial installation;<\/li>\n<li>when the heading reading on the standard magnetic compass has become unreliable (for example, after an accident);<\/li>\n<li>after repairs or structural modifications to the ship that affect the permanent and\/or induced magnetism of the standard magnetic compass;<\/li>\n<li>after the installation, modification, or removal of electrical or magnetic equipment near the standard magnetic compass; \u2022 when the recorded deviations exceed 5 degrees;<\/li>\n<li>when the standard magnetic compass exhibits physical defects;<\/li>\n<li>after dry-docking the ship; and<\/li>\n<li>when the ship&#8217;s master deems it necessary for navigational safety (normally at intervals of not more than two years).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=&#8221;custom&#8221;
